Project 03_The Peach Colony

Beat swords into Plowshares inspired the project due to the nature of turning wartime elements into conventional means in which civilians are able to better their lives. The site of Pier 70 in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco was originally used for shipbuilding during World War II, which has left the land in a brown field site condition.

In addition the given program was to incorporate housing for veterans in the form of SRO’s we believed that allowing this concept of swords to plowshares was fitting. We would introduce the concept of an urban farm in which the housing would frame and therefore transform the site into an urban farming community that contrasts the earlier uses of wartime shipbuilding.

Project 04_Journeys

Every journey has a destination and everyone experiences this journey differently. The Pierce Point Ranch the furthest point one can drive north on the Point Reyes National seashore, to get here from anywhere around is a journey. Upon arrival there is a missing opportunity for the visitor, therefore the addition of a visitor center is greatly needed. The visitor center is to educate and illustrate to the public how valuable the land is in which they are visiting, as well become a destination all its own along the seashore. With this the visitor center uses natural materials such as oxidized copper and reclaimed lumber to help show the aging effect that the environment has on these materials.
